On Friday, Jan. 17, the Chandler Public Library will host the 10th Annual LibCon celebration for teenage fans of comics, anime, video games, cosplay, and other fantasy and science fiction entertainment. This year’s event is from 6:30-9 p.m. at the Chandler Hamilton Library, 3700 S. Arizona Ave. LibCon is a free, “teens only” event with no registration required.
LibCon 2020 is especially meaningful to event organizers who established the event 10 years ago and have seen similar events spread to other Valley libraries. The goal of the event is to provide a special and unique opportunity for teens who enjoy both popular culture and the library to come together for fun, friendship and shared interests. LibCon is a welcoming event for teens to be themselves in a safe environment where they can discover their creative talents, and meet likeminded individuals, where they can feel like they belong
This year’s event will feature tabletop gaming and video gaming, as well as a selfie station. There will be plenty of fun and engaging activities for first-timers and returnees, no matter what fandoms they belong to, including crafts, a cosplay fashion show and a raffle drawing where teens could win prizes donated by the vendors. DJ Jamal will be in attendance, once again, to host a dance party and play favorite fandom music. The vendor hall, which has been very popular with attendees at previous Libcon events, will be in full swing with many new and returning vendors.
