That first draft never tasted so good. At least not until Changing Hands got a hold of it.
The popular Tempe bookstore that became a Phoenix household name on Mill Avenue in the 1970s before moving to a strip mall in 1998 — never losing its customer base — has opened a second location in uptown Phoenix, along with what might be Arizona’s first book bar. Selling more than books, they are now serving food, wine, and beer. Buzz about the new venue on social media gives positive reviews.
If you haven’t yet been — and we’re sure you’re going to go — consider meeting friends for Happy Hour. Monday through Friday, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., expect $1 off the wine and beer on tap. They’ll offer a rotating selection of red and white wines as well as craft brews, including Arizona-made. After you go, be sure to let us know what you think:

I wish our local independent bookstore (Binghamton, New York) had food and beer/wine. They tried to expand into a vacant properly next door and I understand that the landlord of the vacant property wouldn’t rent to them. I hope they can get the space.

It’s been a huge success so far — only in its first week. I think it’s a great idea. I hope you get yours. And I love that the indies are growing again. If a book bar helps the expansion, all the better. Thanks for visiting, Alana.
