Have you ever been to an RV Show? Are you thinking about what it would be like to see the country in an RV or Trailer?
Let me give you the info I know. That was us. About ready to hit retirement and yes, like everyone, we wanted to see the US. I mean really see it. Not from a plane, but have the ability to pull over, stop at an antique store on Route 66 or have a picnic on the edge of an amazing lake we happen to pass by. That kind of seeing the country.
We started out with an RV. A small, older RV. The reason was simply it’s just us two, we don’t need the space. We are never going to have a road trip with the grandkids (yep, we are selfishly enjoying our retirement), so why get a big one? We went old because you have to realize, this is not an investment where you make money. You don’t. You lose equity very quickly. What you gain in freedom to see the world is priceless. If we spent a little on our first old RV, didn’t like it, we had a small amount to lose if we chose to sell it.
We did. Part of the draw to the RV is you just get up, get a drink, make a sandwich and you don’t even need to pull over. How great is that? About 6 hours into our trip to Sturgis, we both realized we get car sick standing while moving Its the harsh reality of oops.. why didn’t we figure this out first?
Lesson 1. Probably should have Rented a Coach before we bought one. Our saving grace was we were able to sell it for about what we paid so we got lucky. Really lucky.
Our love for travel never wavered. We had to make this work. Next stop, Travel Trailer shopping.
What attracted us to the travel trailer is simply we unhook the truck and go. No tow car to deal with, and no engine and transmission to maintain as you do with the RV. It’s all personal preference. We easily found one we absolutely love. We bought it used because again if we didn’t use it we certainly don’t need a lawn ornament. We would need to sell it and didn’t want to lose again much of our investment.
So far so good. Make sure you have a truck that can pull it. We have been to this RV Show and its amazing. Tons to look at and plan to spend some time there.
