When temperatures outside are still a bit toasty, here’s an indoor activity that will inspire folks who possess a passion for local history. The historic Orpheum Theater in Downtown Phoenix is offering FREE Guided Tours on at least one Tuesday a month.
Picture the scene, 1929 – almost 100 years ago, when the Orpheum Theater opened. Theater patrons enjoyed live performances and some silent movies. Delightfully, the fully restored Orpheum Theater still boasts a full line-up of performances and movies.
The building’s original Spanish-style architecture and ornate, but regal decor add to the nostalgic ambiance. The Orpheum, including its original Wurlitzer organ, can be experienced, not only during performances, but during a Guided Tour of the theater given by the Friends of the Orpheum Theater.
Tours are given once a month, sometimes more often, on various Tuesdays. Check the tour schedule and register before the date here.
The Orpheum Theater is located at 203 West Adams Street, Phoenix, 85003. The tour lasts 90 minutes. Parking meters are in the area. Donations are appreciated at the end of the tour.
