International Museum Day has been celebrated at multiple museums on or around May 18 since 1977 with creative events and activities engaging visitors and highlighting the importance of the role of museums that serve our communities.
According to the International Council of Museums, International Museum Day’s goal is to “raise awareness…that museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, cooperation, and peace among peoples”.
This year’s International Museum Day’s theme is “Museums for Education and Research”. In the Valley of the Sun, the following museums have announced participation on International Museum Day this Saturday, May 18, 2024.
S’edav Va’aki Museum
S’edav Va’aki Museum (formerly Pueblo Grande Museum) celebrates International Museum Day by offering FREE admission on Saturday, May 18, 2024 with free kids crafts, discovery backpacks, artifact show-and-tell stations, and outdoor detective archaeology activities from 10 a.m. to noon.
Admission to the Museum is FREE all day on May 18 from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. The S’edav Va’aki Museum is located at 4619 East Washington Street, Phoenix, 85034. Free parking is located on the northwest corner of the grounds.
Western Spirit: Scottsdale’s Museum of the West
On Saturday, May 18, 2024, the Western Spirit Museum is acknowledging International Museum Day with a discount on admission.
The Museum’s create-your-rate admission special offers entrance for $5 or more as a donation on May 18 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission donations support Western Spirit’s A+ educational initiatives. This offer is valid in-person only.
The Western Spirit: Scottsdale’s Museum of the West is located at 3830 North Marshall Way, Scottsdale, 85251. There is plenty of parking south of Main Street, on the north side of the museum building. Look for the blue parking sign on Marshall Way.
