On Saturday, March 7 Mesa Arts Center’s free Sound + Cinema series kicks off with live music by local band People Who Could Fly (7 p.m.) and a free film screening of The Princess Bride (8 p.m.). The event also features hands-on art activities, lawn games, photo booth, and special guests.
Costumes inspired by characters from the featured film are encouraged and the best costume wins a prize package provided by Zia Records and Alamo Drafthouse. Those planning to attend the all-ages event are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating, and outside snacks are welcome. In addition, to live music and film screening, attendees can also bring a tote bag or t-shirt to screen-print an original design by artist Jim Tucker.
Kettle corn and shaved ice will be available for purchase, along with specialty drinks “Ginger Root,” a non-alcoholic beverage featuring ginger beer and cranberry, and the “As You Wish,” a cocktail with tequila, elderflower, sparkling grapefruit, and fresh lime.
Sound + Cinema is in its pilot phase through May 2020. In addition to the Mar. 7 event, the initial lineup includes Jurassic Park, featuring Holy Fawn on April 4, and Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse, featuring The Senators on May 2. The March 7 and May 2 events will be hosted by Monique “Mo” Rodriguez, host of “The Mo Show!” on radio station 93.3AltAZ.
