Summer’s here, and the urban living is easy–on Tempe Town Lake. Come on out and enjoy this special desert oasis, where you can rent a boat, a kayak or stand-up paddle board (SUP). I’ve tried it all and can attest to the fun.
Tempe Town Lake Boat Rentals, located on the south side of the lake at Tempe Beach Park, has a kiosk where they’ll get you set up for your outing. If it’s your first time on an SUP, expect full-throttle wobbliness in the legs until you find your balance. And be sure to bring a friend, so you can exchange embarrassing pics on your social media sites.
They also rent pontoon boats, which seat up to 10 people, and are great for family outings or special events; reservations may be required.
Rentals, which require a legal identification card and credit/debit card, range in price from $20 to $70 per hour of fun. Check the website or sign up for their newsletter to find out about regular discounts (current offer: $5 off kayak rental).
Rental hours: Monday-Thursday, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.; Friday, 10 a.m. – 8 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. – 8 p.m.
