Indian Fair and Market (March 7-8). The Heard Museum hosts its annual event showcasing Native American jewelry, art, pottery, basketry, photography, and sculpture from all over the U.S. and Canada. Not to miss cultural dances, artist demonstrations, storytelling and crafts for kids. It’s. a fun family event
M3F (March 6-8). Proceeds from this nonprofit music festival (formerly the McDowell Mountain Music Festival) benefit local charities. See Bon Iver, Rufus Du Sol, Local Natives and an additional 30-plus bands at this three-day festival celebrating music, food, and shopping. Plus lots of Family-friendly activities in the kid’s zone at Margaret T. Hance Park.
Scottish Games (March 7-8). The Caledonian Society of Arizona hosts the 56th annual Scottish Games with food, fun, entertainment and history. Trace family roots, try on a kilt and enjoy traditional and modern Scottish tunes. Plus Highland dancing, pipe bands, athletics, historical re-enactments, vintage car exhibitions, and kids activities at Steele Indian School Park in Phoenix.
Family Fit Fest (March 7). This superhero-themed fitness and health event includes a Kids Fit Zone, free haircuts, a superhero training academy, Superheroes Dance Parade, and an ice cream eating contest. Like contests? how about a dancing contest. There will be games, giveaways, and shopping. Wear your costumes at Arizona Boardwalk (formerly OdySea in the Desert).
Spring Butterfly Exhibit (Feb. 29-May 10). Hundreds of butterflies native to the Southwest will greet you at the Desert Botanical Garden’s Spring Butterfly Exhibit. Visit the caterpillar nursery to learn about the life cycle of the butterfly and watch butterflies emerging from their chrysalides.
Cactus League Spring Training (Feb. 21-March 24). With 10 facilities hosting 15 Major League Baseball teams in metro Phoenix, there are plenty of opportunities for fans to catch a Cactus League Spring Training game daily through March. Game times and ticket prices vary. Even earlier this month, fans can watch pitchers and catchers and team practices.
March Movie Mania. (March 6, 13, 20 and 27). Every Friday, grab a blanket and watch a free movie under the stars at the McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park. Food and refreshments for sale. March 6: Lion King, March 13: The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, March 20: The Secret Life of Pets 2, March 27: The Incredibles 2.
Arizona Renaissance Festival (Feb. 8-March 29). Huzzah! Travel back to the 16th century at the annual Renaissance Festival and Artisan Marketplace east of Apache Junction. See knights joust and explore the nonstop pageantry that fills a 30-acre village nestled in the shadows of the Superstition Mountains. Live entertainment, food and artisan shops.
Wedge Skate Jam (March 7). The City of Scottsdale hosts its annual Wedge Skate Jam with a DJ, giveaways and fun for all ages. Entry is free, but parents/guardians must sign waivers at Scottsdale’s Eldorado Park.
Sound + Cinema (March 7). Enjoy live music followed by classic movies under the stars on a giant screen every first Saturday at Mesa Arts Center. Food vendors available and costumes encouraged.
