You still have time to stop by Pueblo Grande Museum in Phoenix today for the 15th Annual Veteran’s Day Gourd Dance and Potluck. In honor of those who serve or who have served our country, admission is free. The event runs till 4 p.m.
Guests are invited to bring a potluck dish to share with the crowd.
Founded in 1929, the museum, located at 4619 E. Washington Street is actually an archaeological site and repository operated by the city of Phoenix. It exhibits, researches, collects, interprets and preserves cultural materials from Pueblo Grande, the site of ancient Hohokam ruins, and prehistoric cultures of the Southwest.
Aside from today’s special event–Native American gourd dancing–a visit to this museum offers a great opportunity to learn about the beginnings of Phoenix, which was founded because of the irrigation canals that the Hohokam originally built. Inside the museum, you’ll see a replica of how the original site may have looked, beginning in AD 450. Outside, you’ll be able to walk a trail through the restored ruins, including the original canal structure.
