Got Bad Credit? Head to The Nest Haunted House

Posted on | September 20, 2011 | No Comments

Sorry! This deal has expired. If you subscribe to Phoenix on the Cheap, you’ll never miss another deal!

Are you haunted by a bad credit rating or have you been declined for a credit card or loan? Well, here’s a spooky Halloween gift to cheer you up– a friend sent me a press release about the Grand Opening of The Nest Haunted House in Chandler, Arizona. It’s been rated the spookiest place in America by Good Morning America. This Friday, they will give you a “scare credit” for your bad credit.

Only on Friday, September 23, 2011 can Halloween enthusiasts with scary credit get a big break. Anyone who brings a credit report with a score of 600 or less, or a recently declined credit card/loan application will receive free admission to The Nest on opening day. Bwaaaaaaaaa Haaaaaaa!

They also have a deal for military personnel: The NEST is also keeping its long standing tradition of honoring those in the Military or in Public Service. All Military and Public Service officials (Police, Fire and EMTs) are invited to bring their families for free on opening weekend. In order to qualify for the free entrance, guests will be asked to show their Military ID Card or public safety ID card. Each guest who shows any of the above will receive free access for themselves and their entire family on opening days September 23rd and 24, 2011.

So here’s how it works. There are two ways to receive the scare credit for bad credit:

1) Anyone who brings a credit report with a score of 600 or less issued by one of the three major credit reporting agencies: Equifax, TransUnion or Experian will receive free admission to The Nest Haunted House on opening day for their entire family.

2) Anyone who brings a recent letter/email stating their application for a loan or credit card has been declined will receive free admission to The Nest Haunted House on opening day for their entire family. The declined notice must have been issued on or after May 1, 2011.

Regular admission cost is $25/person. Note that they DO offer coupons on their website, so check, ok? Here are some haunted house deals:
Thursday Night Student Special: with coupon buy one ticket and get the second of equal or greater value at half price.
Sunday Night Family Pack: with coupons groups of 4 get in for $60.00.  Not valid on October 30
$2.00 off general admission: Good any night off regular priced ticket.
$4.00 off VIP admission: Good any night off regular priced VIP ticket.

The Nest Haunted House is located on the grounds of Rawhide, 5700 W North Loop Road. Chandler, AZ.

Thank you, Vera B., for passing along this spooky deal!

Free Eye Exam for Seniors/EyeCare

Posted on | September 19, 2011 | No Comments

EyeCare America offers a free eye exam for qualifying seniors. If you qualify, you will be seen by a volunteer ophthalmologist at no charge to you. Here are some of the rules, but you need to read the whole thing (link above).

EyeCare America facilitates eye care for U.S. citizens or legal residents who are without an Eye M.D. and who do not belong to an HMO or do not have eye care coverage through the Veterans Administration.

  • Those who are age 65 or older and who have not seen an EyeMD in three of more years may be eligible to receive a comprehensive, medical eye exam and up to one year of care at no out-of-pocket cost for any disease diagnosed during the initial exam. Volunteer ophthalmologists will waive co-payments, accepting Medicare and /or other insurance reimbursement as payment in full: patients without insurance receive this care at no charge.
  • Those who are determined to be at increased risk for glaucoma (by age, race and family history) and have not had an eye exam in 12 months or more may be eligible to receive a free glaucoma eye exam if they are uninsured. Those with insurance will be billed for the exam and are responsible for any co-payments. The initiation of treatment is provided, if deemed necessary by the doctor during the exam.

Note that eyeglasses are NOT covered.

As I understand it, you fill out the online form and someone will contact you telling you where you should go for your free eye exam.
