Mic Check – open mic night
Does the teenager in your life poke fun at you after just about everything you say? Maybe you have a teenager who articulates often how much more they know than you. On a more serious note, how about the teenager who can’t quite find the words to speak, but needs to express something from deep within. There’s a FREE event, called Mic Check that takes place every 3rd Saturday of the month in Central Phoenix at Free Arts at Parsons Place, 352 East Camelback Road, Suite 100, Phoenix, 85012. that could truly inspire the teens and young adults in your life to channel their energy through their own poetry.
The purpose of Mic Check is to provide a safe and creative place for young people to express themselves in a healthy way with guidance from trusted facilitators. These adult facilitiators are experienced “trauma-informed care professionals, who have years of experience working with young people from all backgrounds and experiences.” In other words, they will meet your teenagers and young adults where they are at in their lives. Featured artists are also on hand to demonstrate and encourage.
The Mic Check event is on the 3rd Saturday of each month with registration beginning at 3 pm. Workshops on poetry, self-expression, and the visual arts are scheduled until 4:30 pm. From 4:45 to 6:30 there is an open mic for anyone who wishes to share. No worries parents and care-givers, you are invited to relax in the adult lounge where you can enjoy a view of the open mic show.
This may be just what the teenager or young adult in your life is craving! It’s almost certain that the teen in your life has something to say, I know mine does, especially after the last few years of uncertainty during the pandemic. Why not help give them their voice?
Mic Check is a free event, but you will need to register here. Registration is still open for the October 15 Mic Check. Please check back with Phoenix on the Cheap; this post will be updated as more dates are added past October 15.
